Categories for Liquor Licences

There are five licensing categories:

  1. Licensing for the sale of liquor for consumption on the proposed premises.
  2. Licensing for the sale of liquor for consumption off the proposed premises.
  3. Licensing for the sale of liquor for consumption both on and off the proposed premises. (These are only approved in exceptional circumstances.)
  4. Licensing for the micro-manufacturing and selling of liquor for consumption both on and off the proposed premises.
  5. Licensing for National Liquor Distribution.

Types of Liquor Licences

The specific licence required depends on your particular type of business.

Additional Storage Premises Licence

This licence is required if the licence holder wants to store liquor at additional premises.

Micro Manufacturer Licence

Liquor producers, such as wine farmers, distillers, crafters and brewhouses. 

National Distribution Licence

National liquor distribution to other licensed premises.

Off-Site Consumption Licence

Liquor stores.

On-Site Consumption Licence

Sale of liquor for consumption on the specific premises where the liquor is sold.

Restaurants, Coffee Shops, Guesthouses, Hotels and Pubs.

Procurement of Controlling Interest Licence

This licence is required when the financial interest in the liquor licence changes.

Special On-Site Consumption Licence

A licence granted for particular premises where liquor is sold to be consumed on the premises. Including premises where live entertainment is held and party buses or floating vessels.

Pubs, Clubs, Franchises, Action Bars, Pool Lounges, Cocktail Lounges, Accommodation Facilities, Sports Facilities, Night Clubs and Taverns.

Special Off-Site Consumption Licence

Granted for online sales.

Structural Changes Licence

This licence is required when structural changes are made to the licenced premises.

Tasting or Promotional Purposes Licence

Required for a micro-manufacturing premises that offer tastings or promotions.

Transfer Licence

Transfer of a liquor licence from one entity to another or from one premises to a different premises.

Wine Grocer Liquor Licence

Premises where only wine is sold by a bona fide supermarket.
